Ideas for Companies of All Kinds

Need some inspiration? Here are a few events Sealy employees have organized over the years to raise funds to support the Triad Holiday Challenge benefiting Salvation Army food pantries in the Piedmont Triad. Remember, every dollar contribution to the Triad Holiday Challenge is converted into three cans of food!

Flamingo Flocking

Sealy’s Customer Service Department has purchased inflatable pink flamingos of various sizes. For one or two months each year, the group offers employees the opportunity to surprise a co-worker with a Flamingo Flocking for the day. People pick the size of the flock they want to order by paying $1 per flamingo. We then post “flocked” employees’ photos on the company Intranet. Employees who do not want to be flocked can pay $10 for “flocking insurance.”

Holiday Bake Sale

Employees place orders from a menu of cakes and pies available upon request. These are baked and available for pick up right before the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Dress the Execs Fundraiser

A handful of executives are enlisted for the fundraiser, and then a list of participating executives and available silly costumes is distributed. Employees are invited to vote with their dollars. For every executive who gets $500 in votes to dress up in a certain costume, they will have to do so on a designated day. Daily updates are given to employees to generate interest. In the afternoon of the designated day, the dress-up participants parade down our center staircase for all employees to see. Photos are posted on our Intranet so that employees who voted with donations can see the execs in costume.

Triad Holiday Challenge 500 Tricycle Race

Sealy was fortunate to have NASCAR’s Bobby Labonte participate in this fundraiser. Employees needed to raise $50 to compete in the tricycle race. After four initial heats, the winners advanced to the final heat with Bobby. The race participant who raised the most money for the Salvation Army Canned Food Drive automatically would automatically be on the Pole in the race against Bobby Labonte.  Labonte.

Hoops & Scoops

Rent a basketball hoop booth. Charge employees for a 30-second turn to get as many baskets as they can. Top scoring participant wins a prize (e.g. at Sealy we gave away a mattress set). Offer ice cream as a stand-alone purchase or in combination with playing the Hoops Contest.

Spa Day

Find a manicurist or masseuse to donate a two or three hours of time to provide employees with manicures or chair massages. Charge employees for these “spa” services as a fundraiser.

1950s Soda Shop

A department decorates our employee dining room in a1950s theme. This team dresses up in 1950s outfits and serves employees from a menu of soda shop favorites (milkshakes, sundaes, floats).

Letters from Santa

Employees pay $5 per letter that they would like to order from Santa. Employees fill out a form with some details on the child recipients. The Customer Support Team then assembled the letters and sent them in a box to the post office in North Pole, Alaska. These were then postmarked there and sent to the children before Christmas.

Closest to the Pin Contest

Sealy is fortunate to have a modified driving range on the front lawn of our corporate headquarters that includes a hole across the pond. Our Research & Development team hosts a Closest to the Pin fundraiser each year in which employees get three shots for $5. The employee with the ball that is closest to the pin receives a new mattress set and bragging rights for the year!

Candy Grams

Employees can let someone know they appreciate the work they do by sending a candy gram that has a chocolate and a balloon.

Mega Electronics Raffle

Sealy’s IT Department has done a fabulous job of organizing a very popular raffle featuring prizes of all sorts of the latest electronics and mobile technology, such as smart phones, iPads, Kindles, iTunes gift cards, X-Box 360 Kinect and LCD TVs ranging in size from 22 inches to 55 inches! They solicit the prizes or the funds to purchase the prizes from their vendors. The vendors then share in the fun by coming to the Raffle Drawing to draw the winner for the prize they sponsored. This year, Sealy raised more than $9000 with Mega Raffle!

Multimedia Sale

Similar to a Tag Sale, but with a focus on used books, CDs and DVDS.

Cookies in a Jar

Sell the dry ingredients for making sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies and/or oatmeal raisin cookies in a mason jar with a decorative fabric top.

Wii Bowling Contest

Set up one or two Wii units with flat screen TVs in your break room and host a Wii Bowling Contest. Winner gets a fun prize.
